Mom on Mission

Fast forward several years and God was faithful with the image He had shown Erin in the Sunflower Garden.

Gracie defied all odds and achieved amazing feats. From being voted Homecoming Queen of Georgetown High School,, her inspiration brought national notoriety to Georgetown and was a huge stamp of affirmation for people with disabilities.

Shortly after graduating from high school, Erin asked the question any parent would, “What’s next for Gracie?” She was surprised to hear the answer that thousands of parents hear, “Mrs. Kiltz, there is nothing for Gracie.” Erin simply would not accept that answer as she had watched her daughter flourish in countless avenues and knew there had to be a way for Gracie to embrace her God-given gifts. In October of 2010, the Kiltz family began a journey to find a community that affirms worth and dignity for adults with disabilities and discovered The Brookwood Community in Brookshire, Texas.

Erin then begins a pilot program in her home.

Participants made pottery, granola and planted sunflowers. Just a year later, and under the wing of the Brookwood Community, Brookwood in Georgetown was born and welcomed its first eight Citizens at the Georgetown Church of Christ.

In 2016, the Citizen work program moved into a newly renovated space, allowing for more Citizens and additional enterprises.

The BiG Shop and Café was created to welcome the community in and showcase the talents of BiG Citizens.

Answering the prayers of many, God generously provided 127 acres in Weir, and BiG broke ground on its first two permanent residential homes.

Grace Place welcomed home its first residents in 2023.
